Future Plans

  • MAP has run the bus as a pilot project for the past 2.5 years. The pilot is wrapping up Dec. 31, 2018. There will be a break in scheduled service for at least a few months. Bus charters will still be available and we hope to be able to secure funding to resume and expand our service in the future. Details.
  • Eventual scheduled service goals:
    • Winter - 3 days a week: Thursday, Friday and Saturday
Rationale: All stores are open, Nu-To- Yu open Friday/Saturday, Winter Market open Saturday, clinic open Thursday/Friday, students travelling on Friday/Saturday, and people going off-island Thursday/Friday.
    • Summer – 6 days a week: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday
  • If demand and resources are sufficient MAP would like to expand the routes for the bus. In our Passenger Transportation Branch service plan we included 5 additional potential routes (see image).
  • MAP is considering making the bus available for special events.
  • MAP has sold our second smaller bus (10 seats). This will hopefully provide funds to repair our main vehicle (Bus21)
  • MAP hopes to continue raising operating funds through grants and community events and donations. With the Community Hall, MAP will apply to the Islands Savings Foundation for operating dollars and will support various community fundraisers.
  • Donations for the bus of more than $20 are tax deductible if made out to the CRD: more information.
  • MAP will continue to train and sponsor volunteer bus drivers. Let us know if you're interested!
  • MAP will continue to solicit community input about the bus. Share your suggestions and input about any aspect of the service with us!
