The Pender Island Community Bus is a volunteer run service: drivers and staff all volunteer their time to help make this important service continue to operate.
We offer our drivers on-island Class 4 mentorship with our experienced, qualified drivers. We will go over the driver's manual, talk about areas where special attention should be focused, and assist you with your study, if requested. Costs associated with getting and retaining your licence (i.e. written test, medical test, driver's test, testing vehicle, and transportation to and from the test) are all covered. We request that you commit to at least two 3-4 hour shifts per month.
If you have a mechanical background we could use your help with basic mechanical checks and advice. Regular checkups and mechanical work will be made by a certified mechanic but our maintenance team helps to keep the vehicle running in top form.
We are happy to have volunteers who are able and interested to help with the many administrative tasks we have: organizing drivers, creating standard operating procedure manuals, annual licensing forms, marketing, scheduling, website work, fundraising, grant writing, and generally ensuring that the bus is on the road.
Donations help to pay for fuel, insurance, volunteer training, coordination, and maintenance costs. Donations of $20.00 or more are eligible for a charitable tax receipt. Contact Us for more information.
